The brief was to design a book design for the story 'Metamorphosis' by Franz Kafka as part of a group.

As part of my second year at Loughborough University we were set a book brief as part of a group in which we had to design our own visual design for the story 'Metamorphosis' by Franz Kafka. We went on a research trip to Prague, Kafka's birthplace, and from our findings decided that we would utilise the visuals of geometry to display the notion of the book's character's cells changing. Throughtout the book, as the character slowly became more and more bug like, more bugs could be seen on the double page spreads and less geometrical cells. My section of the book was towards the end; consequently, it contains an abundance of bugs and very few cells. The colour scheme of the book also underwent a gradual change from red to green, mirroring the character's change from a man into a bug. I drew the illustrations based upon the notion of the confusion the character was feeling and tried my best to convey this through the sketchy lines and overlapping images of the pieces.
